Josef Freese inherited his enthusiasm for horses from his father. On the family's farm in Hogenbögen, he mounted his own pony, and it didn't take long until he had an own horse. First successes at riding competitions followed. Dealing with horses and training them became his passion. After a commercial education, Josef Freese started an apprenticeship with Paul Forkert in Bremen to become a horse trainer (today called “Pferdewirt” in German), which he completed in 1981. In November 1993 followed the examination for the Master of Horse Management-Riding (“Pferdewirtschaftsmeister Reiten”) which he passed receiving the silver Stensbeck badge.

He had some very famous trainers, like Johann Hinnemann, Siegfried “Bimbo” Peilicke and Manfred Kötter, who helped him to achieve numerous wins and placements up to advanced class competitions. In 1997 he was awarded the Golden Riding Badge for his successes in dressage and jumping, which is a very rare combination. Today he primarily focuses on dressage.

Today Josef Freese is acting like a coach. Two- and four-legged talents are promoted and strengths are sponsored. In his daily work, he can profit from a big experience from the cooperation with national and international sport-sizes like Sören Pedersen (Denmark) and Gerd Sosath. In the Dressage section exists a narrow cooperation with the elite dressage trainer Susanne Miesner, based in Warendorf.
